How do you calibrate multimeters that has a non detachable test leads?

There are a few multimeter models out there i.e Kyoritsu that does not have a banana plug input. Instead, they all have a built in test leads that can't be removed from the meter.

Any ideas? (or Advices?)

errr...help, anybody, please..

some Sanwa Handy Multimeters also have non-detachable test leads/probes..

I would guess that you test the meter through the leads that are attached, state this on the test/calibration report and include a component of uncertainty to cover the leads.

Probably easier said than done.

Hi everybody,
Could you please advice me what we have to do to calibrate a electrical measuring device that comprising some measuring equipment as multimeter, volmeter ...
Can we calibrated them individually or can we only verify the general function of the measuring device ?
Thanks in advance.

Based on your follow-up response, it depends on whether the instruments can be separated or not. If your meters can be easily separated, then you can cal them separately and simply "marry" them into a set.....but if separating them poses a problem, then cal them as a matched set.

Your accredited cal lab will need access to the instruments for calibration, however that is accomplished.

Hope this helps.

This is easy.....go to ohms, connet the leads and zero them out, thus compensating for the lead resistance.....then plug the leads directly to the meter calibrator.

Hope this helps.

erk. this may sound stupid but the test leads are ermm..pointy? and to plug into a banana input-type..that makes them ermm..movable?

i guess that means holding them to a "permanent" position during calibration and then zero the calibrator would be a way.

just wondering is safety wise its OK to do that because its not a fixed fitting between the leads and the input area...

Adapters are available and not real expensive from sources like Pomona that include a male banana to plug into the meter calibrator, and the other end has threaded plastic covers that will accept pointy and then screw down to hold them in place. Far safer then trying to hold them.

Hi Everybody,
I'm working in an instrument maintenance workshop. Normally we are sending our calibrators and multimeters to an accredited laboratory. we use 2 Beamex MC5 and fluke 87V-189. One of mc5s is a bench type not portable. My question is is it possible to calibrate the multimeters by using the bench type mc5 as a standart.

Thanks
