Z class pin gages are not the only class of gages in use on shop floor in many companies. Just like gage blocks they come various tolerances such as:
Class XX .00002" (twenty millionths)
Class X .00004" (forty millionths)
Class Y .00007" (seventy millionths)
Class Z .0001" (one tenth)
As I said in my first posting calibration was based on using a super mic or bench mic which may have been applicable for the company I then worked for based on the class of the pin gage they were using. In any case you need to determine the method of calibration of these gages bases on requirements and the basic fundamentals of dimensional metrology.
