We purchased a profile projector of a very famous Japanese make.Alongwith the profile projector, they gave us the calibration certificate of the profile projector with details of the master used by them (graduated scale) and the date on which the master was last calibrated. They did not give us the traceability link to national / international standard and also whether the master was under calibration status during calibarion of profile projector.

What to do in such cases?

Did you ask the manufacturer or distributor if a detailed calibration record is available? Other than general expectations, was there anything in the purchase documentation or the manufacturer's specs that indicated that it was required or would be provided? When buying something expensive, your requirements and the seller's inclusions must be explicitly stated in the PO and related contractual documents.

I should also add that optical comparators are not fond of being moved around, so after being shipped, a manufacturer's calibration might not be of much use anyway. It's best to have the thing calibrated by a reliable source after it's installed.

I agree.....have an accredited lab cal the machine.....the grid needs to be calibrated also.
