Calibration

Tim Douty

We are in the process of having all of our scales calibrated. We stated to our vendor that "All services must be consistent to ISO 9001:2000 requirements". The vendor has asked what our tolerance limitations are. The vendor is trying to obtain tolerance within 1%. Where can I find what the tolerance specification truley is? We produce cast iron pipe and fittings. How close does tolerance limits have to be? Any suggestions would be of great help!

Depends...

Hi Tim,

I guess that would depend on what you use the scales for. If 1% is good enough to make certain that you stay within the tolerance limits of the product, then all should be well.

The general rule is usually that the measuring equipment should be accurate to within 10% of the tolerance width of what it is used to measure.
