Caliper Calibration Instruction - Example Caliper Calibration Procedure Wanted

There is an ASME standard for calipers- ASME B89.1.14-2018 as well. If you need a procedure, I'd be happy to send you ours if you need it. Message me.
^this is actually one of the standards I was trying to find. This along with others in the series; e.g. ASME B89.1.13, ASME B89.1.10M, Etc... I'm in the midst of developing a comprehensive calibration system (protocol(s), reporting, and tracking) and no real budget to do so; grass roots effort.

Found Mitutoyo's guidance(s) for calibration, and loosely wrote protocols to that (referenced ASME B89.1.14); essentially 3-5 graduations measured across 90% of the equipment operational range. I added 3-5 measurements at each graduation in an effort to address R&R of devices in parallel. i would appreciate any information you'd be willing to share... especially any help with propagation of error/measurement uncertainty determination and reporting?

I may have missed it if it was mentioned, is this for a calibration or manufacturing environment?
I'm developing a comprehensive calibration system for monitoring and measuring devices in a manufacturing environment. Trying to replicate (as close as feasibly possible) external services for cal cert.

I've had experience with manufacturer's overkilling their calibration procedures because they thought they needed to be closer to a calibration house. Just touching base about that.

I agree with Eredhel. Try keeping the calibration instructions/procedures simple. You can shoot yourself in the foot come audit time if it is complicated and things are missed.

I primarily have 13485 background, and conceded to calibration provider in past life, pretty much the only way not to get eaten alive during audit. Now managing in a 9001 facility, and we manufacture a non ferrous fabricated metal product(s); 0.0001" is about the tightest tolerance of any of the components. I agree with the sentiment about convolution... using industry norm. guidance for cal method and acceptance criterion (i.e. permissible error in ASME B89. series) could I consider the equipment calibrated, or just verified (without uncertainty reported)?

It depends so much on the organization. There are job shops that need the bare minimum and can have gage blocks and mic standards checked by a 3rd party NIST lab that are used to verify all their internal measuring instruments and calibrate when possible. They may have surface plates, comparators, CMMs, et cetera that are done by a 3rd party in house at regular intervals. But the basic stuff like checking mics and calipers can be handled in house with chosen parameters to standards checked externally at regular intervals.

I'd be hesitant to give too much guidance because it depends so much on the shop's needs. However ISO 9001:2015 doesn't require anything near as involved as a calibration house.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I know of job shops certified to ISO 9001:2015 that have never done a gage R&R or uncertainty reports. I won't necessarily say that's ok because I believe there's more to it than just one step in the chain. But I can think of situations where I believe it's not a definite requirement.

Everyone's input is greatly appreciated. Majority of my experience comes from ISO 13485, where all calibrations are highly scrutinized. That being said I would agree with the aforementioned guidance, perhaps I'll just take it up in a risk based approach with appropriate rationale for accuracy and such... forgoing a convoluted calibration system.
