Can a customer send a claim during PPAP?

Hello dear IATF Gurus

I have a big dilemma.
If I am during PPAP development fase and I delivered some samples to the customer and they have found some issues/deviations on the products, can they actually send me a claim?

Isn't the scope of PPAP to check the effectiveness of the CP and then to adjust if we observe deviations? How can I get a Claim if product is in development?
Please answer asap. Highly appreciated.

Andreea: If the samples you sent are nonconforming, then they can indeed submit a claim/nonconformance. Your contract with the customer is to supply parts which conform to their requirements, whether they are PPAP parts or not.
How did you end up sending NC parts for a PPAP submission? Unless this was clearly communicated to the customer during the layout and preparation stage, and you were authorizzed to ship your PPAP under deviation, then you are (probably) in the wrong. I would have to know much more detail about this to give a more definitive answer.

Andreea, I agree with what Ron said. The whole purpose of the PPAP is to demonstrate that the parts you are producing for your customers meet their requirements. Like Ron said, anything that doesn't meet the requirements must be flagged to the customer and a deviation sent pending a final disposition agreement - like either correcting whatever is causing the NC or updating a print to match the NC condition. The PSW that you are signing as part of the PPAP is a legal document that says you are presenting these parts to the specifications. If you don't note on the PSW that there are problems, then you and your company could be held legally responsible.

The scope of the PPAP is not what you suggested. Basically, it is to prove to your customer that your company can reliably make parts meeting the customers specifications and in the quantity required.

The PPAP is kind of your package to show you can meet all customer requirements. If the customer receives PPAP parts that don't meet their requirements, they can definitely make a claim, as they didn't get what they paid for. They won't/shouldn't approve a PPAP when they find NG parts.

Andreaa,

Is this PPAP submission or pre-production samples?

Are you or your customer design responsible?

Is this an issue with the parts not meeting specification or parts meeting specification but not meeting customer requirements?

If prout is in development stage, then it has no sense to prepare the PPAP documents. IF you prepare the PPAP documents = the project is at the end and you are ready for the mass production start. Off course if customer ršecognize there is something wrong withthe PPA sample parts, they have to say to you and for sure the issue needs to be improved ASAP.

If you sent sample parts with the understanding that they were pre-production samples, and the customer notified you that there were nonconforming conditions, that's what's supposed to happen. Did the customer get invoiced for the parts? Did you actually submit a PPAP? If so, why?
