R&D-AM & QAM conflict exists.
general perception expressed through most of the posts... is that, it is not a problem; This seems OK with a smaller groups;
But when it comes to larger groups/real-life; its mostly contrary,
... ... similar to that of production environment - R&D head is working under constraints/influence of the 'delivery'' - ''faster time to reach market'' - and in order to do so, he is almost (always) taking the risks ( of not adequately establishing/verifying the design before transferring the product/technology to the production shop-floor...)
And this aspect runs against the robustness of product-design/development.
In the above context, QAM becoming R&D-M, could prove right, when QA-hat weighs down on other constraints/risks; But it might also affects the amount of the innovation to be brought into the technology; If its otherwise (R&D-hat weighing down on QA..) then its detrimental to quality! right
in the end, it's the professional maturity of the person which determines the suitability to role(s)/leadership.
