Can I publish a copy of ISO 9001:2000 on company intranet?

I think that's a reasonable action.
You'd probably also be surprised at how many people have their own copies of the standard from past training and such.
Precisely. How many of us have taken auditor training courses? How many of those courses provided a copy of the standard? How many of those copies are actually legit?

The inside of the cover page of my ISO 9001 from ISO states "...no part of this publication may be reproduced or utilized in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical...without permission in writing from either ISO...or ISO's member body in the country of the requester."

So, hey, we've all done it at some point. :notme:

But if you want to dot your i's and cross your t's, contact ISO or your member body.

Site licenses ARE available from ASQ!

ASQ website says (http://qualitypress.asq.org/perl/catalog.cgi?item=T2101)
ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000: Quality Management Systems: Requirements
ANSI/ISO/ASQ

This standard specifies the quality system requirements for the ISO 9001:2000 quality system standard.

Need this standard NOW? Download the ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000 standard (or the entire 9000-2000 set) from our E-Standards web site. Ahora disponible en Espanol!
Also available in a pocket-sized 3½ x 8½ format. </I>

Especially for Auditors! Quality Press now offers an excerpted version of this standard - in an e-Book format for Palm Pilots and Windows CE devices - see our e-Books Homepage for more details.
The U.S. TAG and TC176 asks for your input into a continuing process of verification and validation of the new ISO 9001:2000 Standard. This process will result in useful inputs for future revisions to the ISO 9000 family. Please lend your support to this initiative by completing this short online survey. To purchase an electronic Site License of this standard to post on your company's Local Area Network or Intranet, visit our Site License home page.

ASQ's electronic standards are provided in portable download format (PDF). The site license files are not printable. Each user will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 to view the documents.Acrobat Reader 4.0 can be downloaded for free.
The following standards are currently available as site licenses. If you are interested in ordering or pricing any of these standards, check the box(es) next to the standard(s) you are interested in.
1: ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9000, Q9001, Q9004 Series – Quality Management Systems Standards – Site License.

2: ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9000-2005 – Quality Management Systems : Fundamentals and Vocabulary – Site License
3: ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000 – Quality Management Systems: Requirements – Site License
4: ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9004-2000 – Quality Management Systems: Guidelines for Performance Improvements – Site License
To calculate a price, you will need to enter the total number of employees who will theoretically have access to the document(s). For example, if you have 15,000 employees, but only 7,000 of them have access to a computer, you would enter 7,000. If you have 100 locations worldwide, but the document will only be posted on the Local Area Network of a single location, you would enter the total number of employees at that location who have access to a computer.
Number of employees with access

interesting.

So if your document control system is electronic you need a licence for anyone that has permission to open the file?
Even though to comply with ISO9001 philosophy everyone in the company should be familiar with the standard and have free access to it?

Kind of a catch 22 between copyright and ideology, eh?
I believe that technically, a single user licence will entitle one person at a time to look at it within the organisation that bought it. Obviously this becomes very hard to police and enforce so yes, it is a bit of a stupid scenario! It is that fine line being blurred, between freedom of information and copyright infringements!

Anyway, if there was a way you could post it on the Intranet but only allow one person access at a time, I think you may be technically legal, as long as they are all part of the organisation that bought the standard.

Again though, can't really be sure on your individual case. Any copyright lawyers visit the cove>?

Just get a permission in writing from the publisher and it becomes perfectly legal. Go ahead, write to them - whoever published the copy you bought! Believe me, they dont get many (any?) such requests. They will be more than happy to consider.

Haven't attempted recently. But we had got permision from the then ISI (now BIS) to use the copy of ISO 9002 (I think it was 1987 version) for multiple use. It came for a cost on a "specified limited use as defined herein" basis - if I remember the words correctly.

I would have given you more details if I had access to that correspondence today.

Anyway, it has been done successfully.

Dear "New Kid:"

I would discount any responses from the U.S.A...
a) We had a President who said, "it depends on what the definition of is is."
b) Our national oversite board found someone fraudulently using their logo and accepted the excuse of it "being an error."

On this side of the pond, when caught, you just say, "I made an error in judgement."

I would like to ask the question why would you want to post the standard on your intranet?
I agree. Reading the standard would just be too hard for most people. Much better to summarise it in words your staff (and management :notme: ) can understand.

What we normally do in our electronic system is a cover sheet to announce that we have the standard (with the tittle and a small text about its context) but it mentions that due to copyright laws, if anyone in the company needs a copy (electronic copies are allowed) they must ask to the responsable person in the Engineering Dept.
