Can several trainees share one answer sheet?

I have trained several employees on the application of a corporate procedure. After the lesson, I gave them some reading materials and told them to find the suitable answers and fill in the answer sheet. However they only gave me one answer sheet. They said that they had consulted and agreed with each other. Have you ever met situations like this, how did you handle it? What do you think is the right way to handle it?

Hi,

I would still prefer some individual based answer sheets for basic understanding followed by this kind of stuff as a group exercise. Group actvities should be extended where team related activities like Team Building, Motivational exercises etc. are expected

If you take an individual based assessment, you can clearly judge that person's understanding on the subject and will aid in evaluation 'cos not many people do not talk much when sitting in a group.

I declare the trainees are clever.

Had you set up a direction that each trainee was to take his/her own quiz? Is such a method the normal one at your organization? If not, perhaps that should be clarified at test time.

I find a certain value if the people had indeed made a huddle and gathered a consensus on questions, voted on a scribe and took this on as a project. That approach can bring great value to the Quality effort.

However, knowing people as I do I suspect that one or a few answered answered the questions while the rest maintained levels of participation based on their personalities and comprehension.

If the procedure is critical, you can say, "I am sorry for the misunderstanding but each of you must take this test individually because it is important that each employee understands it." And nicely stand your ground.

I agree with Jennifer...thank them for their effort but one student equals one exam paper, completed individually without collusion.

Group interactions can be powerful learning tools. How about a compromise?

Have each student answer the questions individually, and this counts for 1/2 of their score. Then allow them to get together in small groups to discuss their answers and come to a group consensus, which counts for the other 1/2. If the students agree on an answer - great. If not, they can discuss and try to convince each other of their reasoning.

Another bit of info that can be interesting is to ask how sure people are of their answer (1=just guessing; 5 = positive). Future training could be adjusted based not only on how well people did, but how sure they were. Teaching someone who guesses a wrong answer is different from teach ing someone who is convinced that the wrong answer is right.

I would also strongly consider a follow-up quiz a week or a month later to see how well the info is retained. People can cram info into short-term memory during a training session, but then forget it once the urgency of an exam is passed.

How about telling them that they all will only earn one paycheck and share that also. They want toi be treated and considered as one, give them what they ask for.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I know at my last job when I did the training the quiz they had to complete at the end was open book/person. The way I see it is if they don't know the anwser I would rather have them ask than guess.
