Can the Management Representative represent top management as the sole auditee?

The original question was whether the MR can be the sole representative of top management, not whether the MR can be the sole internal auditor.

Yep, my mistake, I read the original question incorrectly. I read 'auditee' as 'auditor'.

Sorry for any confusion! :frust:

In case of External certification body audits ?

I would also like to mention clause 5.5.2,
Which states that" Top management shall appoint a member of management who,irrespetive of other responsibilities,shall have responsibility and authority that includes, a) ensuring that processes needed for the QMS are established,implemented and maintained"

Hence when MR has the authority to establish the Top management process , why not he be audited for the same by CB auditor?

Note that it does not say the MR should establish the processes, but ensure that they are established. Purchasing would establish theirs, production would establish theirs, HR would establish theirs, etc. MR ensures that all comply with the standard.

So while MR will be audited, he/she will not be only member of top management who will be audited. This is also true for internal audits.

Duke is correct. The MR is only one person that represents Top Management. There are other as Duke has mentioned.

If the External Auditor was only interviewing the MR then in my opinion, they are not getting a true snapshot of the Organization's Management, and their commitment.
