We may have to ask a question - why do we need 30-40 days to get the certificate after successful completion of audit?

With the current technological world can't it be done in shorter time?

To start with, things cannot go forward until all the nonconformances found during the audit have been resolved and submitted. The ball is in the court of the auditee until appropriate responses have been submitted.

There are certain things that require the judgement of experienced (battle scared) veterans that have to be done in approving certification. Although clerks and assistants can aid in preparation, in the end, the committee or committees with that experience need to meet and confirm that all is well. Maybe some things can be done to make things go faster after the NCRs have been approved, but it isn't likely that it will ever be instant.

The interesting question is why ISO 17021 has no timetable for any actions
The rules for TS state clearly the time by which a report must be submitted and the time for a certification decision.

I understand in this case there is No NC and the Lead auditor highlighted that he recommends the Organization for granting the certification!

Hi,

It is not the auditor who makes the certification decision, it is the certification manager who reviews the auditors report and work to make sure they did a thorough, professional and compliant job. But, as mentioned above, it is unusual for the auditor recommendation not to go ahead. However, there is no doubt that technically you are NOT certified until the certification manager has made the decision (in writing). At this point the CB MAY be prepared to issue you your certificate number if you need it urgently, and certificate preparation is going to take a few days/weeks. That depends on the CB and maybe even on your auditor/certification manager.

So, technically you cannot make the claim unitl you have a certificate number, I DEFINITELY would not advertise the fact or send out a press release until you have the number, but you could explain the situation to clients over the phone.

Yes. It's all in ISO 17021, but to be honest if you dont work for a CB you probably wont be too familiar with the standard (lucky you - that is a good place to be!).

I am not working for CB, but aware of 17021 ......but here QC checking time shall be minimized! - as some highlighted here 30-45 days it takes to recive the certificate.

It could - if you can make "technology" check an auditor's work! It's got nothing to do with technology!

Was the speed of the certificate turn around one of the things you considered asking when you selected your Certification Body?

I agree it is NOT allowable to advertise the registration until the certificate is issued.

My opening meeting with CB clients always includes the fact that as an auditor I do not certify. I can only recommend, either via having no nonconformances listed or after having reviewed the completed actions and submitted final documentation to the certifying body. In closing meetings I always reiterate this message, just to be clear.

Certifying bodies may have teams of qualified people in flung-out locations to review this documentation from the entire reach of the CB's market. One can feel sure there are quite a few of these documents to review, and that such reviews are in addition to, and not the sole responsibility for at least some of these employees. On top of that, discussion and reconciliation to a final determination may need to take place if viewpoints differ. That takes time as well.

Where critical, it may be possible to expedite the process by requesting to be scheduled ahead of other reviews, but my guess priority will be assigned to clients whose certificates are very close to expiration, and so their continuing cert is contingent solely on this review process. For first-time certificates the reschedule may only be manageable by granting your official request.
