Not really. It may be totally dependent upon a number of factors. Not all CBs require the same things. Maybe if you are in the medical device industry or you can read across as an automotive supplier, to other processes. But for a number of CBs (I'm familiar with) a Correction/Corrective Action is all that's needed.

You can correct the issue (CA), and the source of the issue (part of CA, but prevention of recurrence)...to some eyes, that is one of each...

Not my eyes, thus my response...but you could make a good case that part of the CA is prevention of recurrence...
If you're one of the many auditors I've had to deal with...the preventative part is not CA but PA...doubling the paperwork for no reason whatsoever...

We all know that those auditors exist, many threads on them here...
whether or not we agree with them, it still costs time and money to put up with them...
humans...whatchagonnado...?

CA is defined by ISO 9000:2015 as "action to eliminate the cause of a nonconformity and to prevent recurrence". So CA has already a prevention feature. In the requirements under clause 10.2, I believe, the preventive action part is within the statement in 10.2.1b.3 where it specifies "evaluate the need for action... in order that it does not... occur elsewhere, by:... determining if similar nonconformities exist, or could potentially occur".

I'm helping by pointing out that not all statements are always accurate for all situations! Many of us have a wide ranging experience (because of our careers) to share (freely and altruistically) rather than simply stating opinions, based on a smaller number of experiences. Not "arguing", simply stating a different set of guidance. If we all took the (one) thing we read as "the only way", QMS stuff would look really odd...

Hi Eddie,

Two thought:
1) do you ever print the log? If so, how does it meet the requirements of 7.5?
2) Do you use an internal audit plan? Could CAR actions and audits all be put on the plan and everyone just really uses the plan?
