CB (most preferred in USA?) ISO 9001

Hi everybody

I'm evaluating the CB for my iso 9001:2008.

Here in Mexico there are several options, but my products are sent/sold to USA, that is the reason I'm looking for a CB in USA, that way, my clients may feel better if a CB from USA is certifing us.

In USA is there a preference for a certain CB company? is it so important the choice?

E.g. Here in Mexico we have HSB registration services (USA with representative in Mexico), TUV (also representatives in Mexico), GlobalSTD (Mexican company), BSI (British with representative in mexico).

Please share your thoughts in this issue.

I essentially agree with Randy, but a big factor can be cost. These are old .xls files, but contain some things to think about - See the files named Registrar Comparison in the Free Files directory.

Given their accreditation, as Randy advises, you should be able to rely on a standard service with few differentiators, but here are a few to consider:

A. Your CB must be respected by your clientele (current and future customers).

B. Ask your shortlist of CBs what they do to promote the value of their certificates to your clientele.

C. Insist on no advice or suggested improvements that may sully the independence of your certificate just to see what they say. If they insist on issuing their OFIs, move on.

In agreement with all the statements posted. However, you posted a list of well recognized registrar that have a good reputation in USA. Have you had a chance to talk to them /

Did you talk to the management representative from the customer that has shown a preference for a USA registrar.

You should also consider a local (Competent ) auditor near you that also has the advantage of the local language - unless you have seen them in action and would prefer other auditors.

That's true, however, if you take a look at HOW they do that - or their PERFORMANCE then there's a big difference. The organization's customers may "recognize" a CB, however that CB's service performance may NOT be known the those customers of the certified organization! Then what? Take a look at the ANAB suspension list too, for example...

I highly recomend going smaller with the registrar. I have gotten much better customer service from smaller registrars vs the larger ones. Right now I am with a giant registrar (that kind of sounds like hen, hes, heff ;)), and honestly I would jump ship in a SECOND if I didnt really like my auditor. This place does not respond to my emails and no one ever gets back to me on questions or things that I need. They are just too big and not helpfull at all.

Oh and usually if you find a good auditor you stick with that person wherever they may go. I have changed like 5 registrars to stay with just one auditor while he was still active. Now he is retired and I was lucky enought to find another good one.
