My company is in turbine component machining and grinding. We contract with several tooling builders for custom inspection fixtures and holding nests. The "rule of thumb" to remember is "Precision costs money!" The least expensive holding fixtures we buy generally start at 5K. As a comparison, look at the Fowler, Starrett, or Mitutoyo catalogs. Price comparison of measuring devices reveals that adding an order of magnitude (.001 to .0001) will generally double the cost (approx). That is for mass produced gauging. Now consider that you are requiring a custom, one off job and your gage build precision should follow the 10:1 rule where it will affect part measurement. All that considered, I think the price you were quoted is pretty reasonable. Depending on your cost/part and the volume of production, you may want to consider finding a measurement solution with existing gages that can be purchased off the shelf. I hope that helps somewhat.
