The standard only requires that the drawings be checked and approved. It does not mandate that it be done by two different individuals. If you currently let the same person perform both operations, and it is working for you, there is no need to change, as long as your procedures allow that situation. If the practice of letting the same person draw and check drawings causes you a problem later in the process, your Corrective and Preventative Action process should catch the problem, lead you to the root cause and the solution.
IMHO, it is unwise to change things that are working for you, unless you try hard and cannot fiqure out a way to interpret the standard to allow them.
