Chrysler's Requirement for Powerway Software

I have received the DC letter as well, and have been looking at Pilgrim and Powerway for "Web-based" APQP...

Obvsly, the DC letter help push me in one direction but I want to keep my options open. When I looked at Pilgrim's Web APQP system I was intrigued, but uncertain if I would have to purchase a citrix farm to run their system or Powerway's any input????

We are a T1/2 to DCX and are current users of the "Powerway Suite" and have registered to Powerway.com (we like to keep DCX as a customer).

Understand that the company "Powerway" makes 2 products - "Powerway.com" and "Powerway Suite" the powerway suite is broken down into modules (similar to microsoft office's Excel, Word etc...)

DCX is mandating the use of Powerway.com NOT the Powerway Suite. The powerway.com software is provided via an ASP (Applications Service Provider) type environment on a yearly fee. The software resides at "Powerway" and you log into it from the internet. The Powerway.com software can convert 400 or so different formats into it's own format (Adobe PDF). So you don't have to use the "APQP Writer from the Powerway Suite" you can use MPACT or ACAD or Excel etc...

The way I have explained it to people here is "Think of it as another binder that you must maintain documents in." It just happens to be on the internet and it just so happens that DCX can view it whenever they want.

The other "feature" that DCX likes is that the software uses Quality Gates. So this leave your FMEA till the last minute and submit it will now be impossible because they will track the progress of your Draft FMEA. Oh Yeah !!

Anyway just wanted to clear up the "Powerway.com" and "Powerway Suite" confustion

There is more to it....

Hi Mark & others....its been a long while since I have visited your site....nice to be back....here is some info you and your users might be interested in....

It relates to Covisint....they are an "independant" company started by the Big three and other auto companies.... They are into "e-enablement". They are involved in Supply chain, erp etc..., one of the components that Covisint are looking at is "Quality", which more specifically will be APQP...and guess who the provider is.....it is Powerway.

Now, nothing wrong with any of this...in fact my hat goes off to Powerway for securing this deal.

However, my only concern is that this version of Powerway might become mandatory for all Tier 1's...not just those that supply to Daimler-Chrysler.

Just some food for thought...

One item that has not been stated in this 'powerway.com' discussion is... that DC will not pay out any tooling dollars owed if you do not meet the submission dates that will be managed via powerway.com. Of course, DC has not yet stated what happens if they do not make the submission target dates as well!!!
And for this, we get to pay $9000 to register only manufacturing site; we can't even centralize it to our design center!!!

The web site is an impressive sell, however i take my chances and wait to see it in a contract requirement or a letter directly from DC.
We have Powerway installed, but do not use it; maintenance fees are too high, too difficult to use and suppotr was/is terrible.
This has been a complaint for years.

I just learned a little about Covisint this AM. It appears they are doing all the delphi EDI work and current suppliers are required to sign up with a users fee of $33/month/user. And its mandatory, replaced GQTS. I don't know if its just Delphi mandatory - part of the GM spinoff, or if its replacing GQTS everywhere. Apparently Covisint is pretty big.

Powerway.com

I received an e-mail today stating that additional software is needed to progress through the database. You are required to submit data at certain quality gates, in specific Quality Gate #9. This documentation needs to be created on a software called EasyMap. The downfall to this is that you need to purchase the Visio software to use the EasyMap. Boy, do they get you one way or another!!!!

Now that's a surprise

I'm not totally surprised about buying software to support gate #9. We've run into a few problems ourselves but nothing like that. (yet).

One thing that hasn't been mentioned (or I overlooked it) is that Balanced Score cards are rated on Powerway.com as well as all the other things. In fact, my understanding that it will account for something like 20% of the rating.

Yes, we recieved the mandatory letter like other stating that we had to sign up for Powerway.com or we couldn't bid on anything on the MY 2004 or later.

We also recieved the announcement that in an "unprecedented move" Ford and GM have signed up for the program as well. According to our account rep. we won't have to pay for any additional license fee's but we will have to pay for any additional seats required for the program.

I'm not sure what is meant by the Powerway Suite. According to what I heard Powerway is supposed to support all formats for upload so I'm not sure why you'd want to buy an additional software package if your already using word or excel for documents.

As far as PPAP requirements, my understanding is new ppaps for existing programs still get entered in the "Forever" requirements of the Extended ENterprise page. The Powerway is for new projects in MY2004 and beyond.

One thing I'm surprised no one commented on (or again , I missed it) is D/C bought in to the Powerway program so much that they....surprise....bought into the company, to the tune of 30%. No wonder it's mandatory. That's just more money going back into their pocket.

Don't you just love it.

Powedrway

Is there Scorecard ratings listed in Powerway.com also for viewing? I must have missed this one also. I had heard the rumor of the merge of Powerway and Chrysler, but did not know if this was factual or not. We also received a letter stating that General Motors and Ford have also joined in this venture. We have had a hard time getting Blue Prints and Specifications for the parts listed on Powerway.com I am hoping that the communication gets better on the other end.
