Back from vacation and have just seen a bulletin from GM on Supply Power telling us to sign up with Powerway by Jan 2003.

GM have just revised their APQP Manual (GM1927). The changes are small compared to the 2000 version (still 17 elements) but there is no mention of Powerway.
Has anyone got an idea what is going on? On the one hand we are being told to sign up with Powerway by the three but they continue to produce their own versions of APQP.

We have been registered with Powerway.com since the required deadline set by DC. Since this time we have had 5 part numbers listed in the system for potential "new" parts. I have discovered within the past two months that none of the part numbers in the system are on an active status for DC. Two of them were for a "new model" and that was terminated. Two others they state that we are not going to be the supplier for the part and the last no one seems to know of it and doesn't seem to exist.
I am not sure why our company has to dish out $6000.00 to support a system that is non-functional.

It sounds like Powerway is being mismanaged by your SQA. (Now there's a shocker)

Parts shouldn't be issued until they have been officially sourced, then the SQA has to enter the project from thier end. Once that's done your or someone from your company has to create a part # to match up with the # from the SQA. Once this is done the project is officially opened.

If your lucky your SQA will merge projects...for example we supply 4 parts that go in the door so we have a Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right. In all cases the Fronts are mirror images of each other so our SQA has merged them into Front LH/RH so we don't have to duplicate the uploads.

I agree the $6000 is a steep price for managing the system but we use it pretty extensively for the WK, HB and ND programs.

On a related topic we did get the general letter from GM stating we had to sign up which we already are since we signed on with D/C. However I have yet to be contacted my a GM SQE regarding using powerway for any new projects. I'm not sure what thier policy is, maybe thier not going to use it on anything till the 2005 MY.

Confusion

OK, I am confused.

My boss wants an estimate for moving from ISO9K2K to TS16949. Do I need to include Powerway.com fees in addition to software we will use to create APQP and PPAP documents?

I was wondering if this requirement was for service suppliers. We supply to Mopar. Can anyone help?

I know there are a few Mopar people out there who can be more specific but I have to ask:

What has Mopar told you and are there any requirements on purchase orders from same?

I was under the impression that Mopar was a company now distinct from D/C and have their own "requirements".

Al...

I guess that depends on how you look at it. Powerway.com is NOT a requirement of TS16949 so I don't know if I'd budget that in. HOwever if you do business with GM or D/C you will need to sign on to Powerway.com.

ON a separate note, we have had our first project opened in Powerway by GM and it does have a different look to it than D/C

FYI #2 If your doing business with Chrysler or GM you can find some of the APQP and PPAP documents on thier websites. For ones they dont have you can always use MS Word and Excel for things like FMEA, Control Plans, FLow Diagrams. Maybe I'm old school but I find them a lot more flexible than using a program and a **** of a lot easier to change (as you know these are "Living Documents") than some of the programs we've used. Once you've got one created the rest are a piece of cake.

It anyone wants a template of one of these to check out, email me at [email protected] and I'd be happy to share what I have used.

Hope that helped.

John

Have there been any updates to this. We are a Tier 2 supplier to DCX and have heard it through the grapevine that we may need to get onto powerway.com (and hence, fork out the big annual fee).

All the information I find about this topic seems to be a little old. Did this fizzle out?

Thanks,
Tom
