Re: Cincinnati, Ohio Snow Blizzard - 8 March 2008

It's early morning, so my memory may fail me.... As far as I can recall we have had one day of snow this winter, and we got almost two inches :mg:
Well, that's Denmark for you.

Re: Cincinnati, Ohio Snow Blizzard - 8 March 2008

We ended up lucky here. Only about 10 inches fell, and saturday afternoon the sun even came out. I have a small single stage snow blower that's about 10 years old. I don't remember the last time I used it, but it started up right away. Being a single stage it doesn't work well except in 'dry' snow, which this luckily was. I did have to clear the main drive (see my pictures from about 7 am saturday in first post) 4 times to 'keep up' with the snow, but it was a pretty short job.

Ya'll need to get done with that snow stuff. I'm gonna be in the Cincinnati area in a couple weeks and I expect it to be warm and dry.

Re: Cincinnati, Ohio Snow Blizzard - 8 March 2008

I figure it can't last the week if the predicted temperatures are near the mark. A lot of it is already melting. My driveway is dry where I used the snow blower. Streets are dry already. Sunny out all afternoon today, and some this AM. My outside thermometer says 42 degrees right now.

Friday night and Saturday morning, my neighborhood caught a spate of "lake effect" snow (4-1/2 inches!), but it was so light and fluffy, I blew it off with the LEAF BLOWER, not the snow blower. I estimate the water content was only 2 or 2-1/2 per cent. Far cry from the previous week where we had six inches of heavy, wet snow which kept clogging the snow blower. I estimate the water content of that snow was 10 or 15 per cent. (Good packing for snowballs and snowmen, but definitely a heart attack waiting to happen for some "weekend warrior" who spends the rest of his time competing for Couch Potato of the Year.)

Well, the tale of tape has come out.

At Pearson International Airport (Toronto airport) - 6"

Where I live in a Toronto suburb - 16" - oh ya and a snowplow that leaves 3 ft of snow at the end of your driveway that you took 3 hours to plow. Tax dollars at work (ironically the same week that they send this year's tax bill to us)

Yep - I have snowbanks the height of the family minivan on either side of my driveway. Right now there is no prediction of any snow for the next week..:truce:

Good night all

Fortunately I was just north and west of the snow belt when it went through Indiana, so we only got an inch. Unfortunately, I had rescheduled the sheep shearer from that last storm that came through two weeks ago that left my sheep looking like ice balls. This time he got the snow - 14 inches and they shut down all the roads where he lives. Let's hope this coming weekend is clear and dry both places!

When I first moved to Indiana from West Michigan, I really missed the snow. Not any more!

Looks like something out of a Stephen King novel, doesn't John?

I was in Colunmbus a few years ago, and landed when there was about 6" of snow. The city was pretty much shut down. They ended up with 14" by the time the storm went through. The plant I was supposed to visit shut down before I had landed, so I had a free day. Too bad a lot of businesses were closed due to the weather! I was laughing about the whole thing... I'm from Nebraska, and have driven through more blizzards (yes, real blizzards) than I can count. Most places around here don't shut down for snow - ever.

Marc,

Come live in North Carolina. Many Ohioans already made the move....:D

Stijloor.
:lmao: Doesn't always work that way, the year I was transferred we got a foot of snow here. Unfortunately with only one snow plow for the entire eastern NC area, it doesn't take much snow to make a big mess.

yes, why do North Carolinians buy all the milk and bread up at the first forecast of snow? I can think of lots of things more fun to eat or drink if I'm stuck at home.;) Fortunately, since I've switched to soy milk, and whole grain breads, I don't have that problem any more. You don't catch too many true NC's eating that kind of frou-frou food.
