Does the FAA require parts manufactured for aerospace be classified based on their consequence of failure, criticality, manufacturability risk etc? If so, is there documentation to better understand how to classify these parts accordingly?
Thanks for the reply John, That publication will definitely address the consequence of system failure. Although it doesn't address the structural demand of a part or the manufacturability risk. I've attached a diagram below from a NASA standard, basically, I'm wanting to know if such a part classification process exists for commercial aerospace and if there are resources available to better understand how to perform such part classification?
This NASA part classification system is used to determine the number of samples and the degree to which testing and inspection are needed.
