Clause 1.2 'Application'

Okay, folks, with ISO 9002 now firmly established in the blue box, I'm curious as to how the non-designing organizations out there are addressing Clause 1.2 'Application'.

Where exclusions are made, claims of conformity to this International Standard are not acceptable unless these exclusions are limited to requirements within clause 7, and such exclusions do not affect the organization's ability, or responsibility, to provide product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements.

How are you going to, or how have you already, phrased you exclusions and/or scope of application?

Thanks!

Howdy,

We are also a non-design company and have recently had our upgrade audit. We put a statement in our quality manual that says our customers are responsible for the control and verification of the design of their product and therefore section 7.3 does not apply to our quality system and is excluded.

The auditor said that was perfectly acceptable. I asked him about some of the other ways he has seen people handle it and he said most do it in the same way. You don't need anything fancy, just a brief statement saying that you are excluding that section. Technically you don't even need to state a reason, but it's a good idea.

I hope this helps.
