In the case where a company's core business is plating/coating parts for their customers would that not make EVERYTHING customer property?

As opposed to customers supplying a company with parts to be used in creating something for them.

Would the same controlls apply then?

Gman,

Does your customer own the materials used for your coating and plating services or just the items they send to you for coating and plating?

Answer this and you'll know the extent of customer property.

In both cases, there is customer's property to be processed and returned to customers. So the requirement related to customer's property would be applied in both.

They ONLY supply the parts to be processed. We own and control the materials/chemicals.

Gman,

Then your management system should be helping employees to design and deliver excellent coating and plating services. Your advisory services are also designed.

Of course, this includes caring for and keeping track of each customer's items before, during and after coating.

For your services to fulfill and satisfy customer requirements you'll be advising customers on the necessary condition of their items before they can be coated or plated. And you'll be prepared to treat or reject items that cannot be coated or plated to the customer's spec.
