You can cover the whole tool if you like and then cut away where you do not want it. As far as wrench size, yes it will cover it and you won't be able to read the size, just cut the plasti dip from the size area.:cool:

I had to apply a thin base coat because it wouldn't brush on in a thick coat to cover initially. It has proven to be difficult to apply with subsequent applications and has proven to want to cause lumps. I imagine with more coats it will fill and smooth.

I've considered placing the material in a pan and dipping the tool into the pan of this material to create a smoother application.

Or maybe I'm just not capable of applying it correctly. DOH! :lmao:

I read that about 10% of males are color blind. Does it apply to anyone who would be using this system?

The basis of the system is to identify what machine the tool belongs to. If it is found at another machine it should raise the question, why? Does that machine need one of those tools.

Places like automotive factories use color coding for identifying paths or color andon signs and lights to identify issues.

Other companies use color hardhats to identify who or where the worker is/belongs. The same goes for uniforms.

I have not heard of an issue with not knowing what color is which....

One of my suppliers has provided some Krylon spray paint for color coding of the tools. We have applied a primer coat to help with adhesion and then a color over it. So far so good.

One thing I like about this application is that you can read the tool size and there is virtually no limit to the number of colors you can use....

I'll let you know how this works as well....

BTW, thanks for the responses, it helps having a forum like this to get ideas from others who are doing similar things.:thanx::thanks:

Have you thought of coloured electrical cable ties?
I have used them to for colour coded gauge calibration due dates where stickers, etc., wouldn't stay on the gauge.
They are quick and very cheap!

How wide are they? Do they come in different widths? Remember, this is to help create a visual workplace so you should be able to walk up to a machine and see the tools on the toolboard and what color belongs there. Plus. we want to color code brooms, shovels, etc...

They go from around 2mm up to around 7mm wide. You may be able to get bigger ones?

Reopening an old wound:rolleyes:

On some of the tools that we painted the paint won't stick very well:confused:

It seems like different brand tools have a different chrome that paint won't adhere to. We have bead blasted, wire wheeled, sand papered and still can't get to stick. Once the tool is banged on something it breaks the paint shell and starts flaking off.:mad:

We want a significant amount of the tool covered so it is easliy viewable.

Heat shrink tubing is too expensive. Paint on rubber coating doesn't seem to apply in a smooth even coat.

Any ideas?:frust:
