Company purchased a machine shop - does it have to be included in the IATF scope?

The company I work for bought an existing machine shop so the people and equipment are dedicated to fabricating machine consumables (and repair parts) for just the company I work for. The machine shop portion was not certified prior to purchase and has not been included on its current ownership's IATF cert. It is in its own building still and does not interact with the manufacturing side any differently than it did when it was an independent company (we just cut payroll checks instead of paying invoices). Does it need to be
1) certified at all?
2) certified to ISO minimally?
3) certified to IATF?

Is the machine shop going to be its own independent (sister) company or will it be brought under your QMS?

I think it meets the IATF 16949:2016 definition for "Support Function": non-production activity (conducted on site or at a remote location) that supports one (or more) manufacturing sites of the same organization.

So, I think you need to review the standard to find clauses mentioning support functions.

Yes, I think you have so many days to notify your registrar. They will be able to answer any questions you would have. I think you have so many days to do this. This info may be found in the Rules 5th edition. The 6th edition goes into effect in January.

Thank you for responding! This is an automotive stamping company. The machine shop is not considered a sister company, it has been wholly absorbed by this company (no independent books, contracts, etc.). The only distinction is that it is in a building across the street and not making automotive parts, just machine parts.

The machine shop went from being your supplier to your Support Function. It makes consumables and repair parts for your machines so it needs to be under your facility's QMS.

Based on what? If it is making one off repair parts that are not automotive, what clause are you referring to.
