Comparing data from destructive testing

Hi,

Fir the life of me, I cannot remember what statistical analysis to use to compare destructive tests from 2 sources (internal & lab). Any statisticians out there?

Typically a destruct MSA would be a nested study and the analysis would involve matched pair testing. BUT it is the studydesign that is far more important than the analysis. No amount of statistical manipulation can save a flawed study design. So after answering Jim’s question please describe teh study design...

I assume you are looking at time to get to the failure from a bench test? In that case, Exponential Distribution is used, or if that is disproved, then Weibull. If you are talking how much load did the item get loaded to, pretty much a "normal" Student T could be used, though depends on the rigor/complexity of the experimental design. Or are you just talking - I'm going to dissect this completed product and see what the internals look like?

For what it is worth, my experience with teaching college courses is the student sometimes needs some help in framing the question.

Not a statistician but most of our key testing is destructive. We do nested MSA as well. We lose the repeatability knowledge and just have the "within batch" variation.

Correction: You have the sum of the variances of repeatability AND within-batch variation. Since it is nested, you are not able to separate the two.
