:frust: i work for a sub-contract company, so basically we work to customer drawings! reading through numerous threads on here most of the configuration management is based on drawing, process and assembly issue control documentation.

i am reading this wrong or am i look in to deep as all our job cards have drawing numbers issue numbers etc (as we are approved ISO 9001-2000) all processes are mapped in sequence.

thanking you in advance for your help!

Re: configuration management for sub-contractors

I had a hard time trying to make sense of configuration mgmt too. I spoke with our UL auditor and they said just state how you handle changes when they come up. We don't design either, just assemble per customer print.

Re: configuration management for sub-contractors

For you two it is an issue of control of external documents with regard to customer prints, especially seeing as yu only do assembly. But if you have internal documents that you make (such as assembly instructions), it's an internal document control aspect as well.

Wayne, I understand your confusion.

Reading the requirements, it sounds more difficult than it really is.

As a subcontractor of another organisation you need a system that makes sure that you do use the correct, usually the latest issue of the drawings, specifications or whatever provided by your customer. When issuing your internal documents like job cards you must make sure that these clearly refer to the applicable drawing, specification etc.
Another important thing is marking - either the product or its packaging and its release document must indicate the applicable revision/issue of the product.

Hope this helps!
Angelika

Ok i now have stage one booked for july 1st!!!

Just need to tie up a few loose ends now.

Now that rev c is finally in my hands it states that where exclusions are made these have to be justified, does this have to be at the front of the quality manual or when i get through to section 7?

Fingers crossed

If your Quality Manual is developed according the layout in ISO 9001 I would place the justification(s) for exclusion in Section 7. But it can be placed in the front of the Manual as well. Your choice.
