Hi there,
Can anyone explain what is a "fire enclosure" and give an example of a device where flammability test for insulated wire is required?
Thanks,
Shimon

11.3 * Constructional requirements for fire ENCLOSURES of ME EQUIPMENT
This subclause provides an alternative means of compliance with selected HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS and fault conditions as identified in 13.1.2. In doing so, the following constructional requirements shall be met or specifically analyzed in the RISK MANAGEMENT FILE and if not met, specific justification shall also be given.
a) Insulated wire within the fire ENCLOSURE shall have a flammability classification equivalent FV-1, or better, according to the appropriate parts of the IEC 60695 series. Connectors, printed circuit boards and insulating material on which components are mounted shall have a flammability classification FV-2, or better, according to IEC 60695-11-10. Compliance is checked by inspection of data on materials, or by performing the FV tests specified in IEC 60695-11-10 on three samples of the relevant parts being tested. The samples can be any of the following:
1) complete parts; or
2) sections of a part, including the area with the least wall thickness and any ventilation openings.
Components certified in accordance with IEC 60695-11-10 need not be tested.
