Continuous Improvement as a Newsletter Topic

Dear Covers,

I am planning to talk about QMS continuous improvement in our Quality Newsletter. Discuss about who is in-charge for QMS improvement, how an employee could contribute in improving the process in his own area of quality. My goal is to provide information that the audience can apply into their day to day work activities.

I already conducted classroom training on this topic. So this is just kinda additional infor for them. What do you think?

Please give me your inputs.

Thanks,
Chance

Abso-freaking-lutely. If you have a quality newsletter your should definitely talk about CI.
One of the greatest failures in a CI program is lack of communication of efforts and projects. If people don't know that their colleagues are working on these things they'll have no reason to submit suggestions for improvement.
Another thing you should in the newsletter is celebrate results - that is another major failure in CI program - people want recognition for their efforts so celebrate complete projects with photos and praise for the team.

good luck with your effort!

Thanks a lot for your input. Can you cite some instances where recognition is required? I have some but it is working in progress..too early to celebrate...What do I do? Can I mention those that actually helped in identifying CI ideas even if end result is still on the way?

Abso-freaking-lutely: this is a new word for me...:lol:

Along with that Abso-freaking-lutely plan, encourage and promote creativity and give freedom to those who come forward to try in your Quality Newsletter. You will see that this and CI will compliment each other well in the long run

Think if it from your own perspective - when would you like your boss to recognize your effort on a project? Once a year in an annual review after your participation in a team is long over?
No (although that's how most bosses do it) - recognition is best given ASAP - and your newsletter is a vehicle to do that.
Think of a child... if you reward a toddler for using the potty even an hour after he used it successfully, the meaning of the reward is totally lost.
Same goes for adults, but we can scale up to more than an hour... I hope...
Certainly, though, no longer than quarterly.

Who should be recognized for their effort? I Recognize people that have submitted suggestions, people who are on teams, and teams that have completed CI projects.
Heck - in one job I held we gave immediate recognition simply for submitting a Preventive Action Request by giving candy bars to people who dropped them off. Trivial, but along with that candy bar, they got a personal "Thank You for helping make us a better company" which carried a lot more weight and helped them understand that their ideas and opinions count.
