Control Chart - Salt Spray Test Hours - Powder Coated Parts

Hi all

We are in the process of studying the performance of powder coated parts in terms of the saltspray hours it withstands.

Is there any statistical tool or control charts available to study the variation in performance and to understand the capability of process?

I have given an example data sheet for easy understanding

To be honest, I am kind of spoiled with Minitab as a tool to study results on about anything. If you don't have Minitab, maybe ask around of anybody you might know at another company and see if they can help in the hopes they have Minitab. Keep recording the data in the format you have shown and they can transfer to Minitab easily. You probably won't see "good" data until you have ~50 data points from each supplier. I didn't check but a search on this website might help find an Excel file that someone has designed which could work for you.

What are you interesting in learning? Are you interested in how long it takes parts to show signs of corrosion? Are you interested in comparing paint deposit thickness and some other variable(s)? Are you interested in comparing all of your suppliers' products against each other and/or against a specification? Are you interested in comparing different types of powders?

There are too many different possibilities and variables for anyone here to be able to make a direct recommendation regarding statistical analysis. Tell us more about what you're interested in learning.

OK, we need to know what you want to find out, this will allow us to help you.

from the data above and the minimum time requirement, I would suggest that no suppplier is consistantly within spec, and all need development, however supplier 3 is getting there.

More info needed for better analysis and more reliable recommendations.
