I have been researching diffrent examples of customer supplied material procedures. Ive noticed some go into great detail about goverment supplied, preciuos metals, explosive compounds and others are as brief as we will label, control and account for useage. My question is, since we are a build to print company , and everything we do for our customers is based of the contract review and their required specs, do we have to have all the bases covered in our procedures or can we keep it simple and adjust as necessary. We are currently working toward ISO9001:2000:confused:

always keep it as simple as possible.
Make as generic a process as you can.
Just keep in mind the intellectual property is also customer property.
For my company that = drawings, which I control in the document control procedure.

if you get a ton of physical customer property you may need an inventory system. But still, that system can be as general as possible.

In my past life I came up with a form that I could use to report damage to the customer; if it ever occurred that is. Never had occasion to use it myself, but I could point to it during an audit. :notme:

Yes and in fact it is better there as you have to control documents from external sources.
Please remember "a rose by any other name"- it does not matter what the procedure is called rather what it says.
You can call the procedure/work instruction/practice "information control", "paper chase", " media circus" and still define how documents and records are controlled.
