Control Plan - Links to Customer Documents (e.g. Print) or the Actual Specifications?

Re: Control Plan - Links to Customer Documents (e.g. Print) or the Actual Specificati

This our situation also, and a Ford STA took a control plan out into the plant to do an audit last week. (BTW-I was working in Bowling Green for 5years, was the 1st QM at Capitol Plastics on Van Camp Rd.)
It's yet another indication that Ford isn't really interested in conscientious supply-base management. When you force a high-performing supplier to do extra, unnecessary work, it's bound to impact cost sooner or later. The surest indicator of cluelessness in supplier management is confusing the container (a control plan form, in this case) for the thing contained (production requirements) and forcing suppliers to pound square pegs into round holes.

Re: Control Plan - Links to Customer Documents (e.g. Print) or the Actual Specificati

I work for a manufacturing company who does a lot of different work for different customers. Part of doing business is providing PPAP’s for approval prior to shipping parts. To keep things simple, we use generic PFMEAs for each work operation however we develop specific control plans for each part for each operation required to manufacture part.

For each job we send to the production floor, we use a work order (traveler) with prints attached. Each job is scanned into our system for each operation using a bar code system.

I would like to convert each control plan to a PDF format and attach with each work order however my Boss feels it’s too much information for the production associates. He wants me to keep it simple.

Keeping it simple could be marking up prints, re-typing checks on work order for each operation, etc... I am limited with resources and I do not want to create a system which will be difficult to maintain or add waste. Please help!! Any suggestions are welcomed. Bottom, line, I want to make sure our associates understand the critical dimensions which need to be checked so we can ship a quality product on time.

In summary, what do you recommend is the best way to communicate the required checks listed on the control plan to the production environment?

Thank you.

Some of my clients put control plans on the shop floor, but many do not. Operators generally do not use them. They are rather complex. Two alternatives would be to make an router/inspection sheet using part of the info that is relevant to an operator. The other option might be to mark up a control plan, highlighting the bits you want to operator to focus on. That way the rest does not get in the way.
