I use databases to track everything!!!! IMHO, that is the only way to go.

The first year that I did quality reporting, it took about a month just to go through the data and attempt to organize it. It took another month to sort it all out and begin the reports. That was the first and last time that I handled the reporting manually. As soon as Management Review was over, I implemented spreadsheets and databases to handle the information.

Now it takes about a week to complete all of the reports.

I highly recommend putting things into access and making the database available via an intranet (if possible). You can export the data into excel and generate you visual reports (if you use visuals).
They are coming around to my electronic way of doing things. I even have the production employees filling out CARs/PARs and suggestion forms via the intranet.
Progress is a wonderful thing.
In fact we are training a new internal auditor this year and that is the definition that I gave her for ISO (it is business common sense on paper/in a strange language)
