CQI-12 2nd Edition - Table D, question 2.1 - Powder Coat Painting

Good morning, I'm in the process of implementing the self assessment of the CQI-12 as part of the GM customer specifics. We are a remanufacturer and we powder coat pulley, fans for alternators for cosmetic purposes.

In table D, question 2.1 it asks: "the temperature of the parts entering the coating booth is monitored"

Does anybody know why we have to monitor the temperature, or the purpose of this? Since I don't have any standard or temperature tolerances, I don't know what to write in the PFMEA or the Control plan, or if it even does apply for me.

Thoughts?

The question also quides you to question 1.4, 2.11 and 2.12 in the original CSA (Coating System Assessment) document.Going through those, it asks (in short) if you have an up to date Control Plan which reflects the current process parameters (1.4), are the process control parameters monitored as specified in the control plan (2.11) and are out of control parameters reviewed and reacted to (2.12).
It does not say that you MUST monitor the temperature of the parts going into the booth - that is just a known process parameter that you may choose to monitor. If you don't do it, then mark it as 'Not Required At This Time', and move on.
With that being said, I don't do powder coating, so I may be in error and there may be a valid reason to monitor part temperature at entry - perhaps someone else has some light to shed on this?

Read the process instructions from the powder supplier. They will provide substrate temperatures. I have never heard of a PC company that doesn't monitor temperature.
