Critical Characteristics shown more than once on Control Plan

I have generated a Control plan were we check a critical characteristic at two processes. On the last process I control the process through a 100% autmotated vision inspection while the first is measured manually and not 100%. I have the critical characteristic on both processses as to show that the critical characteristic is measured at both processes but only show the SPC on the last process as a control. Is this incorrect as i have recently had an auditor state I need to remove the critical charatceristic symbol from the first process since it is not where the SPC contol is? So i must ask is the symbol state that is must be control everywhere it is present or is it just bringing to light the critical characteristic on the CP? I would also ask if you have the control (SPC) on the last process is this acceptable to cover the SPC for that critical Charactistic?

Welcome to the Cove. :D

I think your auditor is mistaken, and the symbol should remain in place so long as the requirement for statistical analysis is in place somewhere.

If you're referring to the same characteristic being measured in two different operations, it seems to me that the logical place to do the SPC would be in the first operation unless the characteristic changes somehow in or before the other (subsequent) operation.

Thank you very much and I greatly appreciate the input. Do you think the critical symbols should remain on all processes assocaited with that dimension? I would also like to ask if you saw a critical characteric symbol at multiple processes would you accept/expect SPC to be completed at each process or the last to affect that characteristic? Have you ever been in this situation before as I agree as you do but being an auditor myself visual evidence is always a must would you happen to have any ideas how this can be presented?

If there is a KPC, it's a KPC all through the process. Where a process can affect the KPC, it should be so noted on the control plan and PFMEA. As I said earlier, my only question would be why the SPC isn't being done in the earlier operation. Doing it more than once would be wasteful so long as the characteristic isn't affected in subsequent operations. As far as auditors are concerned, 'splain it to them. You can also ask the auditor for the documented requirement for using the symbol only when SPC is applied.
