Hi Sidney !

I have OHSAS 18001:1999 too (publish by BSI, but not british... nor international because BSI is not), but present BS OHSAS 18001:2007 is really BS, as BS 8800.

You focus on the thread question to which I replied (but you are reacting only regarding to my PS) : what do you think of my answer on the common documents of different management system ?

Good night.

I am confused. Sidney's picture makes it very clear that the title is OHSAS 18001:2007. I do not see a reference to BS on the cover page.

Stijloor.
I'm also confused. I have found two standards currently in circulation;

one is BS OHSAS 18001:2007 - The 'National Forward' states "This British Standard was published by BSI. It is the official UK implementation of OHSAS 18001:2007 which supersedes OHSAS 18001:1999. BS OHSAS 18001 will be maintained in line with any changes to OHSAS 18001 subject to ........Copyrights lie with BSI. ISBN 978 0 580 59404 5, Total # of pages in all 32, first published in July 2007.

Another Standard is OHSAS 18001:2007 which appears to be an 'international' one since, unlike BS OHSAS 18001:2007, it doesn't have a 'National Forward'. This standard was published by 'OHSAS Project Group' which holds its copyrights. ISBN 978 0 580 50802 8, first published in July 2007, Total # of pages in all 34 (two additional; one with 'Contents' and another one has an acknowledgment with a list of cooperating organizations (43). Interestingly, page (ii) of this standard is marked as © BSI 2007 whilst all other pages bear '© OHSAS Project Group 2007 – All rights reserved'

Both the standards bear 'ICS 03.100.01; 13.100' (?).

What is interesting is at the bottom of the first document!

No Copying without the permission of OHSAS . Now just who is OHSAS?

I can find no such Organization!

It would be interesting to know the contact details inside the cover?

I think that is a pirate copy - but i could be wrong.

I don't think it's a pirate copy since I had it from my registrar who supplied it (but conditionally) on my special request as to which one is the original standard to which we have been certified. Infact, we had a licensed copy of BS OHSAS 18001:2007. Here's the inside cover with contact details :

Ah Hah !

Quote from IRCA http://www.irca.org/inform/issue15/OHSAS18001.html

"The UK has decided to adopt the new version of OHSAS 18001:2007 and to publish it as BS OHSAS 18001:2007. The UK version, denoted by the BS prefix, identifies those issues that need to be taken into account when using this specification in the UK.
"

So in the UK is is a British Standard - therefore - BS OHSAS- but outside the UK it is not accepted as a national std and therefore is addressed only as OHSAS issued by Bsi.

I think that makes sense now?

Yes, I think it's pretty clear now. Outside UK, OHSAS 18001:2007 is an international standard. However, many countries have adopted different or their own OHS standards and as far as I know all these national standards are based on the basic concept of OHSAS 18001 with no significant difference in terms of requirements.
