Hi Carl.

Sorry for the late response. It's one of the big Prime's. I'm not sure if I can name them. Either way, I've had their QM on site who tried to get us a deviation from the requirement but they've come back adamant we need to have it.
I've now sent 4 emails to PRI as I need to understand the costs but have had nothing back.

I don't know the amount of days required, the frequency of audit and days required, amount of auditors, pre-assessment requirements etc...and of course my MD is chasing me for costs!
This company can probably help you. Nadcap Measurement & Inspection AC7130

Could you outsource parts for this one customer to an outside CMM service that is Nadcap?
Or are there practical reasons (cost, time, customer volume, etc.) that make outsourcing not feasible?
That is one route I considered going down, but it's not acceptable to the Prime as we're a tier 1, so we "just have to have it"

Thank you for this Sidney.

I've finally managed to get a quote out of PRI for the initial audit and the pre-assessment.

Does anyone know what the frequency of audits are? Are they a yearly surveillance audit? Is there a 3 yearly re-certification?
I can't speak directly to the Nadcap CMM audit frequency, but my previous employer was Nadcap in Nonconventional Machining and Materials Testing.

The audits are annual, unless you earn "Merit" status (little to no NCRs). If you earn Merit, frequency gets pushed to 18 months and then 24 months.

There is some weird rule where you can only be at the 24 month period for 1 audit cycle, then it moves back to 18 months, but then can go back up to 24. I'm not sure exactly how that works as it was only coming up in my company right before I left. My guess is that the surveillance audits can be 24 month increments, but re-cert brings it back to 18.
