I have a customer that is requiring a "Inspection Point Program". They already require WPS, WQTRs, Detail Quality Control Plan, Manufacturing Procedures, Repair Procedures, Dimensional Control Procedure, Visual Inspection Procedure, NDT Procedure, MTRs, Quality Inspection Test Program and my ISO QC manual as well as my Level II and III procedures. I am lost. What information do they want that I havent coverd already? What is the "Inspection Plan Program"? The only thing I acan think of is a list of all the hold points. Please clue me in.
Thanks

I personally haven't heard of an "Inspection Point Program". Maybe one of the other here can help, but my first advise is to ask your customer for a description (in writing) of what an "Inspection Point Program" is, as well as their expectations.

Does the one customer require ALL these documents? What industry is this?

It seems that at least two documents listed could be the same thing as is being requested, however, we need to know a little more about what's (currently) in each.

They may be wanting documented "Hold Points" or inspection points to assure that inspection is conducted in sequence with part production. Based on the qualification requirements you listed, I'm assuming this is for a part that requires welding with nondestructive inspection.

Welding is a process that requires inpsection before, during, and after actual welding has taken place.

Below is a summarized list of some things to consider.

Inspection before welding:
-Review all applicable drawings and standards.
-Check PO to ensure base and filler materials are properly specified.
-Identify materials as they are recieved against the PO
-Check the CMTR's against any specified requirements.
-Check the condition of the filler metals.
-Check the adequacy and condition of equipment to be used.
-Verify weld joint geometry.
-Verify joint fit up.
-Verify joint clenliness
-Verify WPS and WQTR
-Verify any preheat temps, if required.

Inspection During Welding:
-Check welding parameter and techniques for compliance with WPS.
-Inspect the quality of the individual weld pass. Very important on multi-pass welds.
-Inspect interpass cleaning. (should also be specified on the WPS)
-Verify interpass temperature, if applicable
-Verify that in-process NDT is performed if required.

Inspection after Welding:
-Inspect finished weld appearance to applicable standard.
-Inspect weld size and length.
-Verify dimensional accuracy of completed weldment.
-Select production test samples if needed.
-Evaluate test results.
-Verify that additional NDT is performend, if needed.
-Verify that any PWHT (post weld heat treat) has been performed, if needed.

It is crucial that inspection take place at planned or pre-determined intervals to ensure product conformity. Once welding is complete, many of the things listed above are impossible to inspect. I have a feeling this is what your customer may be trying to get at.

Tonefordays,
They do want everything you listed, it is covered per their specification in the Inspection Test Plan. Their specification is quite clear on that point. We have tried to fish more information about the Inspection Point Program from them but there is a language barrier that makes this difficult.

AndyN,
This is for a structural steel job.
As for your comment, "It seems that at least two documents listed could be the same thing as is being requested, however, we need to know a little more about what's (currently) in each." it's worse than that they want a Quality Control Manual, Detailed Quality Control Manual, Manufacturing Procedure and Inspection Test Plan. Our QC Manual with it's Level L and II Procedures, which they rejected, covers all of this. Rejected without comment or direction.

I'd take the Inspection Test Plan, cut and paste it and re-title it as the Inspection Point Program, highlight in different font the inspection points and submit that...:notme::notme:
