Customer PPAP Approvals - Internal PPAP Possible?

I have come into a backlog of open PPAP...

I have tried to contact the customer previously approving the PPAP and I cannot get a response. The last contact with this customer has been over two years ago and we have been in production for 3 years now.

What do I do if I cannot get customer approval? Can I fully release the assembly internally????

Since you are in production for the said parts for the last 3 yrs, you are save . here are some tips to go about the approval status .
1. maintain the retention of the PPAPs ,resent the mail to your customer and this time you mention ,if you dont receive a reply by 5 working days , this PPAP is considered appproved and will be filed for future referance .( make sure the person you email to is in the correct funtion in the organization of your customer ).
Get internal approval , of the following functions: 1 . Customer service 2. Sales .3 QA. 4 .Design /development 5. Engineering -and close the open PPAPs, Good luck .

jshaw, yes its a rule you define in your document for ppap submission, as suppliers we need to have some guideline in cases like yours. Dont worry about TS, it dont define any 'shall" on this .. .

ISO/TS 16949:2009, 7.3.6.3 says, "The organization shall conform to a product and manufacturing process approval procedure recognized by the customer."
If the product approval process recogized by the customer is the standard AIAG PPAP process, there is no doubt that customer approval is required. Suppliers can't make up their own rules for default approvals. The way to get prompt customer approval is to follow the rules and refuse to ship production quantities until either a PPAP approval or a written waiver thereof is in hand.
