Customer Print Specifications on PFMEA

Hi Golfman,

That is an interesting idea. So say, an operation is "piercing" but there are multiple different-sized pierce holes, one of which is a CC. How do you identify and score the CC item separately on such a PFMEA?
In that case I would probably call it out separately. But for the rest of the holes, I can group them together.

Along the lines of PFMEA/DFMEA etc., Minitab has an excellent new collection of tools (at least new to me) = Minitab Workspace, I am currently giving it a limited try out, but it contains SIPOC, DFMEA, PFMEA, FISHBONE, PROCESS MAPPING, Value Stream Mapping Templates and guides, pretty powerful stuff. I'll follow up after a few weeks of use....Anyone else have experience with this?

Hello, I hope you all would be willing to help clarify something for a me:

Should ALL customer print specifications and notes be included as Requirements on a PFMEA?

For example, a drawn metal component that has print specs such as OD, ID, OAL, Radii, Pierce Hole Diameters, Angles, Chamfers, etc. and notes such as "burrs no larger than X" or "parts must be free from cracks splits...". There are typically 20 - 40 specs on each print - many of which are only measured at set-up (first piece) because they are what we consider "tool-controlled."
In my opinion properly executed PFMEA will tell what in your process could go wrong to cause non-conformity what are the causes and etc. Then you have to put this in your control plan and control this process/product characteristic.

Not quite. The idea in the PFMEA process is to identify the things that need to be controlled and to weed out things that don't need to be. Even if there's a possibility of nonconformity, decisions have to be made as to the prudence of adding controls.
