Customer Rejections - Accepted minimum criteria for rejection of supplied parts?

P

Hi All,

A quick question:

Is there an accepted minimum criteria for rejection of supplied parts? For example if I supplied 2,000,000 parts to a customer who identified 2 as out of specification must I accept this rejection? (I do realise that this would be extremely unlikely!!)

I believe that you only need identify one part that is out of specification.

Any advice gratefully received,

Phil.

Phil,

It all comes down to what was agreed to at the contract review / quotation process. If zero defects were agreed to then it would me a rejection. I would suggest sitting down and agreeing to a sampling plan.

Hi, Phil, and welcome.

In an attempt to answer your question, well, it depends....

It depends on which acceptance sampling scheme has been agreed to. The decision concerning just which scheme that is depends upon the acceptable level of risk and should be determined by the buyer and seller during negotiations. If the part is for internal use, then the management must decide which level of risk is acceptable.

Might I suggest you find a copy of Dr. Ken Stephens "Applied Acceptence Sampling"? It has many schemes already designed, and also has methods outlined for you to build your own, as well as instruction concerning different distributions, etc.

Hope this helps.

Hello Phil P,

If you are talking about two parts out of the same lot or batch of material supplied were rejected for the same nonconformance, do you want to know if this should be counted as one incident? If so, it totally depends on your customers requirements according to their purchase order. They may have a zero defects acceptance policy. Have they requested corrective action?
