Customer requires CpK 2 and PpK 1.5

Customer of us demands CpK of 2 and Ppk of 1.5 however we pressing products like bolts and nuts and process capability depends for a huge part to the tooling dies, etc.

In this process is, beside the process setting the wear of tooling is one of the major factors which influences the process capabilities. Therefor we start always at the lower control limits and ends at the higher limits.

Based on our studies, CpK 1.67 and Ppk of 1 is no problem but customer don't understand our process and stick to these values mentioned before.

Questions:
- did you have simular discussions with your customers
- what was the final outcome

sure have had that conversation. I draw them the picture of tool wear with both scenarios. THEn I calcualte the number of parts they will get between dies and PUT THE COST OF THE NEW DIES IN THE QUOTE...that gets the buyers attention right away and the SQE either backs down or admits that they have a tolerance stackup problen and tehe buyer is stuck with payign for the cost.

but you've got to do this with both engineers and the money people - from your company and the customer - in the same room at the same time.

The customer is always right, but sometimes they need a little guidance to understand what 'right' is. As Bev mentioned, explaining to them in terms of cost per part is always a good way of getting their attention.
With all that being said, this needs to be captured at the quote and APQP stage, not after you have gone into production. If this is a 'new' requirement from them, I would treat it as an engineering change, and reserve the right to requote the part if necessary.
