Hello,

twicew a customer requires a quality plan, but as far I know this is not required by ISO

Please advise?

For 1 customer I send our QSM and copy ISO 9001 certificate.
This was sufficient for them, but the other customer requires a written plan??
Nor only for Q part, but also for HSE

Do we need to make this (by the standard)

if so does someone have a template

Thanks

The quality plan is not a requirement of the ISO 9001 standard but depending on format, it does help to summarize many requirements in a neat and user friendly manner.

Asking for a quality plan is purely a business matter - they want to know your process and how you control them and address the critical areas. Do you have any choice if you need their business? In fact, it makes good business sense if you can get them to pre-approve it. How much info they want would often depend on how critical your product is to them and they do have the right to audit your processes if deem necessary.

Our post attachments list contain many samples - choose one that suits you best.

...the word “quality plan” is not really required by ISO9001:2000 :nope: … but the planning & development of processes needed for product realization is required (clause 7.1)…

…and if you go to detailed requirements of the clause :read: i.e. the determination of quality objectives & requirements for the product, the establishment of processes, documents and providing resources specific to the product, the required verification, validation, monitoring, inspection & testing activities specific to the product acceptance criteria and maintenance of records needed to provide evidence that the realization processes and resulting product meet requirements… well, all of these can be referred to as quality plan…

…in fact, this clause should be the guidance when preparing quality plan…

…just my 2-cents thoughts…

Goede Middag!

Is your customer associated with the automotive industry? If so, they are probably asking for a product-specific quality plan, sometimes called control plan. You may want to verify this with the customer.

Prettige dag toegewenst.

...may I add also the "ITP" (Inspection & Test Plan) - commonly used in fabrication, manufacturing and production...

It becomes an ISO requirement as soon as your customer asks you for it! :D Under 7.2.1. a
The organization shall determine
a) requirements specified by the customer,
In turn they are satisfying a requirement of ISO - 7.4.1:
The organization shall evaluate and select suppliers based on their ability to supply product in accordance with the organization's requirements.
So to convince them that you can supply them with product that meets their requirements they want to know what you plan to do (the quality plan).

Please advise?

The manual might give some customers sufficient information that they can have confidence in your company. Others may want more information about the control plan. The inspection, testing and sampling you intend to do on product they buy.
Nor only for Q part, but also for HSE
HSE has nothing to do with ISO 9001 (as has been discussed in many other threads) but the customer may want confidence that your company is not going to do anything to harm the environment or your own employees that could reflect badly on them if it gets to the press.

Do you have any idea what they have in mind, when they ask for a quality plan? If you can get the customer's quality folks to tell you what they expect, then you can at least tell if they're serious!

I've had success in putting together a simple flowchart of the activites that apply to their product and submitting that - and didn't ask what they expected! You could try that, since they didn't tell you what had to be included! If you format the document professionally - to look like you do it all the time - they'll probably be happy!

The bottom line here, it is your customer's request. Doesn't matter if isn't required by ISO9001:200X or is, in my opinion. It still is your choice to do it or not, but you need to evaluate how important is this customer.
