Dale Carnegie course in UK - Is it worth it?

hi Covers,
while I've spotted a thread about people attending a Dale Carnegie course in the US, there doesn't seem to be anyone having done it in the UK.

I've been pestering my management for training and they're insisting on sending me to this. Small matter I asked for support with Engineering degree...:bonk:

Has anyone done the DC course in the UK? If yes, what was it like for you?
thanks!
Lil

Lord help you, because Dale Carnegie courses probably won't do much more than make you a pushy annoyance to customers and coworkers who will sense your attempts to "manage relationships" as phony and completely insincere.

If you need to learn how to speak in front of small groups, joining one or two local Toastmasters chapters will give you the tools and practice venue for far less cost than a Dale Carnegie course. The bonus is the fellow Toastmasters will probably give you a much more honest appraisal and evaluation than classmates or instructors in a Dale Carnegie course.

My experience with folks who have gone through a Dale Carnegie course as presently offered throughout the world is they just seem to come off as "plastic" when the audience would much prefer genuine wood.

Better still, forget Toastmasters and find a really good "Presentation Skills" course. I did mine in Gloucester, UK and what I learned I still use, 30 years later!

Thanks guys,
I certainly don't have the slightest problem speaking to groups of people. I used run a business doing employee training for years and I'm used to talking to large numbers of people, giving presentations, etc...

What I wanted from my company was some support doing an Engineering degree (financial or time-wise). Instead, I am being carted off to the DC course. I'm really worried it will be just a waste of my time.

Maybe I could do it as a challenge and see how many people in the group end up being more like me muhahahaha
