I do not have a sample but here is the requirement :

Quote :

Element 9 - Parts Handling Plan
The Supplier shall have a documented plan which details how parts are managed and
tracked throughout the entire manufacturing process. This plan shall address the
segregation and identification of scrap, rework/repair, and work in process (WIP).
The PSO team shall confirm that parts are properly segregated and identified
throughout the different stages of the manufacturing process.

Does somewhere ring a bell so the OP can get help ?

Best regards,

Antoine

"Element 9 - Parts Handling Plan..."
Sorry for not jumping in sooner - I didn't have access to the PSO manual from home.

The quoted requirement in the previous post is from the 5th ed. of the PSO manual. Element 9 in the current revision (Rev 5.5, December 2006) is now 2 pages long.
(The complete PSO manual is 123 pages, and available on the Covisint website).

The 5.5 PSO Guidelines and Revisions (a checklist for required documentation) lists the following for Element 9:
  • Containment Records.
  • Material handling procedures
  • Packaging instructions for WIP(Work In Process) containers
  • Maintenance plan for WIP containers
  • Copy of routing cards or travelers
  • Containment of Non-Conforming Material Procedure
  • Containment Record Example
  • Problem Solving team member list

In our last PSO, for this element we included copies of our routings (which include handling instructions), traceability procedures, material & container identification tags/ forms.

Thanks for the info. I basically placed the following information in Section 9 of the PSO book:

  • Rework WI
  • Material Movement WI
  • Material Handling Procedure
  • Control of Non-conforming Product Procedure
  • Packout Procedure

Hopefully, this will cover the requirement...

History – This is our company’s first PSO.

A question concerning documentation for element #9 “Parts Handling Plan”. On the right hand column of page one (Page #24 of PSO manual) of the “Parts Handling Plan” (PSO manual, Rev. 5.5, December 2006) there is a list of three documents. There are:

 Parts Handling Plan
 Material Handling Plan
 Containment Record

I understand what the last two items are. My question is this: Is the Part Handling Plan a separate document? It sounds like it is. Page 48 of the PSO manual for element #9 (PSO checklist) lists all three as what I like to call “deliverables”. Where I am confused is that I thought that Parts Handling Plan was the sum of all the procedures that detail internal material handling operations. A poor analogy would be chapters in a book. The Containment Record, Material Handling Procedure, Packaging Instructions, Containment Procedures, etc. are the chapters and the Parts Handling Plan is the book.

Comments.

Thank you,
John B.

Think of the Element 9 title as the customer's focus - good parts delivered in an acceptable condition. This entails proper handling of components (material handling), exclusion of scrap and suspect material (containment) AND approved packing & packaging (parts handling). Evidence for each of those "chapters" may include multiple documents.

Hope this helps
