Definition of Characteristics Tolerance

In "MSA_Reference_Manual_4th_Edition" page 205, they use the term "Characteristics tolerance", but its not defined anywhere in the book. Can someone give me the definition ?

A more grammatically correct way to have phrased this would have been: "...divide this value by the characteristic's tolerance;..."

The meaning is to divide by the tolerance of the product characteristic (i.e., dimension, property, etc.) that is being measured.

So they are basically referring to the tolerance range ? (USL-LSL)
