Design Record Changes and PPAP Re-submission?

I love splitting hairs.:bonk:

There are two ways to address this:
1) Engineering as a department (designers)
2) Engineering as a function. (designing)

In the first, an "engineering change" is any change made by the engineering department. Even if it is just correcting spelling.

In the second, "engineering change" would apply only to an actual change in the product.

My understanding of the standards is that "Engineering" generally applies to the area, not the function.

Therefore in the case of Changing Rev A to Rev B, The "Engineering" dept made a change to the Design Record. Regardless of whether or not the part itself changed.
Therefore the customer must be notified so that their records can be updated.

Hope this helps

James

How about this,

If the customer changes the print it is a design change. The supplier does not have the right to change a design unless it is a design responsible supplier.

If you as the supplier try to change any part of the design, whether it be to change from an A to B you can request the change as a process improvement. But, you do not have the authority and right to change the design record.

One thing I would like to see is how many companies are design responsible and can arbitrarily revise design records.

Any others wonder???

Design Record Changes and PPAP Re-submission

What do you mean by "During the 12 months before re-submission"?
