Design verification in APQP

I have a doubt, which activity of the APQP process includes design verification? This verification is a requirement of ISO 9001 (8.3.4) and API SPECIFICATION Q1 10thED (5.4.7).

Design Verification is included in section 2.0 Product Design and Development, subsection 2.3 Design Verification, page 15 of the AIAG APQP manual.

Now, when is the right time to apply the activity? Between FMEA Design and prototype?

Because to design verification, I need the design output ready

Since DFMEA is intended to be preventative, to have maximum impact, it should be done prior to completion of the design so any design changes driven by the DFMEA can be done easily with minimum cost. Therefore, it should be done prior to design verification. Regarding prototype, many items in APQP may be done in parallel, so this may depend on whether a prototype is needed to complete design verification or not.
