Destructive Attribute Gage Studies - inserted/pressed in parts

Hi everyone.

I need to provide the customer with Gage R&R studies on some characteristics.

Test Setup (Thin walled cylinder)
Parts are inserted/pressed in gage

1. Go Ring Gage - if less then 'x' value = Pass, if over 'x' value then = Fail.

2. No Go Ring Gage - if greater then 'x' = pass

3. Go Plug inserted into cylinder, a force is recorded - if < 'x' lbs, then Pass.

4. No Go Plug inserted into cylinder, a force is recorded - if > 'x' value, then Pass

No Go Gage/Plugs are destructive test. Does anyone have ideas on how I might be able to do a R&R

Was an solution ever found for this situation? I'm dealing with the same situation and need guidance.

thanks.. i am still in search of an solution. Its not easy with Ford hard set with thier requirements.

Oversimplified - The point of any gage R&R is to see if the gage method is capable of finding discrepant parts when checked. For Attribute gages it would be expected that it can also find bad parts.

In the case of the force check, Over/under sizing a parts so that the press force is LOW (probably can be used more than once) and Over/under sizing so that a HIGH force is found would work provided the gage catches them. (You may need more than one set if they can only be used once). The harder part would be in deciding what sizes? A little trial & error but start with the min/max of the mating components. Min shaft and max hole = Low press force while a Max shaft and min hole = too high force. You might find out that the allowable force requirements allow for material “out of spec” but that give acceptable press fit force readings.

For the Attribute dims checks, there should be a discrepant part / trial for each feature the gage is expected to find. ie Gage check minimum length and max diameter. Out of the ten parts (1) should be too short length and (1) too big dia. & 8 good parts. Does each operator on each separate trial find the same parts as bad? If not, review why.
