Determining the Value of Used Equipment

We have changed our business strategy recently. As a result of that change we have many gages and equipment which we no longer need. Some things such as a Mahr ULM were expensive when purchased and were maintained very well. We would rather sell these items to someone that may use them and benefit from them. We are not looking to "make money". So, where is a good resource to find the value of these type items?

Thanks in advance.

Hi jasonb067,

Have you considered possibly using an auction/appraisal company? It would take all the guess work for you.

Which size ULM, what accessories, how old, and do you have an idea how much you are looking to get for it?

It is a Mahr 300 Opal ...http://www.mahr.de/index.php?NodeID=10454

It is about 5 years old and was only used for maybe 2 of those years. It is a calibration lab with controlled temperature, humidity etc. It has all accessorcies for this particular model. The calibration company which would like to buy it says it is in pristine condition. They just want me to tell them what we would like for it.

I have no expectation of what to get for the unit. I just want to be fair to the purchaser and ourselves.

Jasonbo67,

Your company does not currently need the inspection equipment and wants to sell them to someone that might need them; but not make money? Business is business but sell them for a little profit and take the workforce out to dinner and build some employee satisfaction and goodwill.

Or, if you have the floor space, keep the inspection equipment for future use and keep looking online at the usual places like Craigs List or local for sales ads in the local paper.

You seem to have a good resource at this time so look into all aspects of the opportunity and as I mentioned, maybe use part of the sales price for your employee satisfaction program.

If you would like, send me a list of your equipment and I could do some investigation and maybe assist you.

Thanks for the great question!!

ASD...

Well, of course we want to make money. We have an idea to use some of this money for an employee deal anyway.

Thanks again.
