We have an experienced and very competent inspector who has a habit of retrieving old inspection data for comparison to data acquired from fresh machined parts. When we say old data we mean anywhere from 1 to 5 years. We are trying to convince him that this is a bad practice that can lead to increased time that is not value added. We are a Swiss screw maching shop that produces precision parts in mass quantities. We have over 30 screw machines. Each machine set up for a particular part creates a new family of data that contains machine, operator, tooling and set up variables. We should be focusing on the current part and its compliance to the drawing requirements. Is there anybody who has dealt with the same problem? It's creating unnecessary bottlenecks.
