Dimensional change with PA raw material product

hello all
we have one product with a central hole was made by PA raw material!

i want to know after a long time storage, the diameter of central hole will how to change, because bigger or smaller as we know the product made of PA raw material will absorb moisture.

This is a question without a textbook answer.

Well, one textbook answer: "It depends."

It depends on the grade, the processing and on the lot consistency of the manufacturer. This is a question better left for actual experimentation (more than one lot) and some discussion with your supplier (who may have already done some experimentation.) :cool:

The "It Depends" is going to be as accurate response as you can expect. Was the PA (Polyamide ) PA6, PA6/6, PA46, PA11, PA12, PA6/12, PA6T, PA9T, well, you see where I'm going. They all will actively absorb and release moisture depending on their envirenment, but at different rates. And that's neat material, without influence of any fillers. As PA absorbs moisture, it will change dimensionally, oddly enough proportional to the % moisture absorbed.

Then, add the product geometry to the mix ! Wheee!

If you had a flat, round disc, with a center hole you can expect several different geomtry changes with regard to moisture level, depending on thickness. After moisturization, a very thin sample would tend to grow in the OD and the ID of the center hole a well. On a thicker sample, The OD would probably grow, and the ID of the center hole get smaller.

I would suggest taking your product, getting measurements at DAM conditions, and then in 24 hr increments being exposed to a 100% RH at 23 deg C untill weight / dimensions cease to move. With that, you should be able to extrapolate pretty well exactly what your specific part will do.
